Cushion cover measures 12 x 20 inches and is backed with a maroon handloom cotton fabric. The cushion is lined with matching cotton lining and has a zipper closing.

Our cushions are made using high quality materials and focus is on ensuring a good finish instead of bulk manufacturing. Each piece is over locked to avoid any raw edges on the inside.

This is a Dry Clean Only product. Since this is a hand painted Pillow each kalamkari panel will have some pencil marks and colour spills. We believe this shows the process that goes behind making this piece of art and adds to the appeal of Kalamkari.

This Srikalahasti style of Kalamkari, wherein the "kalam" or pen is used for free hand drawing of the subject and filling in the colours, is entirely hand worked.
This style flowered around temples in Andhra Pradesh, India and so had an almost religious identity - scrolls, temple hangings, chariot banners and the like, depicted deities and scenes taken from the great Hindu epics - Ramayana. Mahabarata, Puranas and the mythological classics.

Only natural dyes are used in Kalamkari and it involves seventeen painstaking steps alternating between dyeing and painted each color at a time. The Kalamkari panel used here has been painted by National Award Winning Craftsmen of Andhra Pradesh. I absolutely love this piece and hope it finds a lovely rich and spiritual home!

Lord Krishna depicted here is the eighth incarnation of the supreme god Vishnu in Hinduism. The word Krishna means One With Dark Complexion and One Who Attracts All. Based on his name, Krishna is often depicted as black or blue-skinned. Krishna is also known by various other names, epithets and titles, which reflect his many associations and attributes. Among the most common names are Mohan "enchanter of women or cowherdesses", Govinda, "finder of cows", or Gopala , "protector of cows", which refer to Krishna's childhood.

Selling through Discovered creates more income for artisans. They can set the price they want to receive for the products themselves. By cutting out all middlemen, artisans receive at least 20% more for their products. This is what we call fairer trade.
Discovered is dedicated to creating positive impact. Not all artisans work alone. Sometimes they work in groups or collectives, are helped by not for profit organizations or work for social businesses. We select our partners to ensure more artisans have work make at least 10% above average wage.
We are committed to crafts. We encourage artisans to make products using traditional crafts and techniques. Making products mainly by hand or with easy accessible tools or common available machines. We believe this is important to keep alive.
We love handmade. We also feel strongly about preserving the world we live in. That’s why we work with our partners & artisans to stimulate using local materials and natural resources, and paying special attention to packaging & shipping.

Dupioni silk pillows

Absolutely gorgeous craftsmanship and the kindest people to deal with! Colors are true to what is represented in photos. Best advice is to be certain of the color and the precise measurements when you order , as shipping back to India is possibly cost prohibitive. A truly wonderful company to deal with and an exceptional product! Thank you!
